I'm thinking about writing a movie. It's going to be called "Generic Horror Movie Made in the Last 30 Years." Here is the plot:
A handsome (young|retired) (reporter|police officer|novelist) and his (newlywed wife|wife and kids|estranged children whose mother just died and their lovable dog) move into (an old farmhouse|a hotel room|the deserted mansion of a recently deceased eccentric relative). As they are unpacking, they notice (a locked door to the attic with no key to be found|an odd stain on the carpet|a book of turn-of-the-century photographs).
The first night in the house, (the husband and wife are toasting each other with a bottle of cheap wine|the young children and dog are exploring the recesses of the house|the family is visited by an eccentric older neighbor bearing a basket containing jars of various pickled "things") when suddenly (a door slams open|a loud noise comes from the other room|blood drips from the ceiling) and startles the family. They are relieved to find it was just (the wind|the dog|blood dripping from the ceiling).
Less and less believable events occur for the next (70|80|160) minutes of the movie.
Finally, the man and his family (escape from|are killed by) the (evil house|ghosts|their own stupidity). In the last scene we see (the sheriff rules it a murder suicide due to the clever nature of the evil to make everything appear that way|he realizes it was all a dream, but then wakes up to find that dream was a dream and it all really happened). As the credits roll, we see (the next young couple eagerly moving into the house, with no idea of the evil that awaits|that we just wasted ten dollars and 2 hours of our life).
What do you think?
